Welcome to Mount Dora

Mount Dora is a stunning waterfront city with quaint tree-lined streets and a vibrant downtown center. It is located on the northeast corner of Lake Dora but also has access to Lake Gertrude and Loch Leven from within its city limits. The multitude of water, moderate weather, and festive atmosphere are a winning combination that makes Mount Dora a wonderful place to live.

The history of Mount Dora dates back to 1880 when it was named Royellou after the postmaster’s kids Roy, Ella, and Louis. Before long, it was renamed Dora after Dora Ann Drawdy, one of the area's first residents. Mount was added to recognize the city's plateau, 184 feet above sea level. From the 1920s until now, Mount Dora has continued growing residential and commercially as one of the premier destinations in Central Florida.

There is a vast range of architectural styles in Mount Dora, from Colonial and Victorian to Lakefront and mid-century modern. Many of these property designs can be seen in the downtown area and among the residential neighborhoods. This extensive array of homes accentuates the historic nature and attractiveness of the city.

Mount Dora is close to Orlando for a weekend trip, but there are plenty of community activities, upscale dining establishments, and unique specialty shops in the city to keep residents busy year-round. It is also well-known for its watersports, often called the Bass Captial of the World. This combination of features makes Mount Dora a fantastic place to call home.
